"Techno Jam Version 1.3:
Cranberry Orange Jelly"

29"x29" © 2004 Available

"TJ: Cranberry Orange Jelly" was one of my teaching quilts onboard the Crystal Serenity during the 101 day world cruise from January 15 - April 27, 2005

V1.3: Cranberry Orange Jelly is created from Gail Kessler’s collection of Jelly fabrics produced by Andover Fabrics debuted at Spring Market 2004 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Even though the shapes of V1.3 are circular, I still consider it to be a Crazy Quilt design. The individual strips of the stripped-pieced sections where cut in random widths, pieced together randomly, cut on random angles and then foundation pieced in random combinations.

The circles and half-circles represent a sliced open orange. The "C" shaped objects can be interpreted as as 'cranberry' or 'crazy'.
"Techno Jam Version 1.4:
Mixed Berry Jelly"

10cm x 12.5cm © 2004 Sold
Permanent Collection of the Sharjah Art Museum, UAE
"TJ V1.4: Mixed Berry Jelly" was created specifically for the "Art On Paper" international exhibition at the Sharjah Art Museum, in Sharjah, the United Arab Emerites, Winter 2005

It is foundation pieced on 3.9"x4.9" card stock.

Materials: cottons, paper, beads, sequins, recycled computer components, found objects.

Techniques: foundation paper piecing, machine quilting, embellishment.
"Techno Jam Version 1.5:
Watermelon Jelly"

25"w x 45"h x 1"d © 2005 Available

Materials: cottons, tulles, ribbons, computer wires, buttons, beads, recycled computer and electronic components.

Techniques: hand foundation piecing, hand quilting, hand embroidery and embellishment.

Statement: The “Techno Jam” series is based on the Victorian crazy quilt design, but in monochromatic color ranges. The theme is about computers and electronics getting ‘jammed up’ and how marmalades, jellies, and preserves can be sticky and messy.

Many of the quilt blocks have transparent sections with no quilt backing behind them. There are butterflies, dragonflies, and ‘computer bugs’ buzzing around to pollinate the flowers of the fruit. There are spiders weaving their webs out of computer wire.

Now that mankind can ‘grow’ computer chips in the lab, where does nature end and technology begin?
