| A 'blue moon' is the rare occurrence of a 2nd full moon in a month. Since this quilt is strictly in shades of blues and purples, I took the liberty of using turquoise fabric for the moon. Update 4/22/03 My husband Peter was very disappoint to learn that Blue Moon was acquired by Dr. Palette at the Chen Gallery exhibition. It's his favorite and he had painted the office in our new home mariner blue as the perfect backdrop color. He asked me if he could commission another wall hanging. |

The moon, comets, and moon shadow
are highlighted in silver and white metallic threads. My husband Peter
points out that I used 'artistic license' with the moon's shadow on the
bay. It's diagonal to make the design more interesting, rather then a
true representation that would be vertical directly under the moon. Flowers
close to the shadow are hand embroidered with highlights of golds and
silvers. The sky goes from a light twilight with flying geese on the horizon
up to stars on an indigo background.
Freehand machine quilting suggests waves in the water and breezes in the sky. Many of the flowers are outline stitched to puff up the petals. The garden contains Irises, Fox-paws, Lupine, Periwinkle, Blueberries and a butterfly. The scale of the flowers changes to simulate perspective. - CLV |
