Home from Honolulu won the "Elizabeth Root Designs Hawaii" $100 second place prize at Quilt Hawaii 2000!! The award was to encourage creativity and to perpetuate the art of applique. Originally designed quilts with Hawaiian or tropical themes were eligible for this category.

This quilt is the first in the Hawaiian Holiday Series. It's a mixed-media, three dimensional piece. Those are real, miniature Hawaiian shirts and boxers hanging from the backyard clothesline. The white picket fence is made of wood and the flowers of fabric and silk ribbon. There's light quilting in the sky and grass for texture.
