Crashing Waves 7.25"h x 7.25"w x 1"d, © September, 2001 Collection of Gayle Regan, Cranford, NJ Acrylic on cotton, embellishment of pearls & crystals, trapunto, quilting, and embroidery Crashing Waves was made specifically for a 'Surf' exhibition at the Be Gallery in Asbury Park during the fall of 2001. It has quite a bit of physical depth from the trapunto method. Iridescent acrylics to the fabric to make the water shimmer. The elaborate beadwork takes on the form of sea spray. Judge's Comments: Wonderful dimensional effect. Very
powerful mini piece. Beads add to the wonderful effect- Sandra Dorrbecker,

White Gulls and White Caps This piece reminds me of the bitter end of the peninsula,
Milton Point, that I grew up on in Rye, NY. The rocks that mark the Milton
harbor are called Scotch Caps. |

Barnegat Light 7"h x 5"w, © August 2001 Sold For commission information contact clvquilts@yahoo.com. This scene is typical of what we see when we sail Fandango along the Jersey Shore. The Barnegat Lighthouse is appliqued and the sand dunes, clouds, sea gulls, and sailboats are trapuntoed--a special quilting technique that puffs out a section of fabric. The miniature clam shells that are stitched along the shore were collected on a beach walk. The dune grass is embroidered and the water's edge has bits of white metallic thread that sparkles in the light like sea surf. Other available artwork from the Spray Beach Collection: "Blue Horizon" Slate Blue water & sky, sailboats, seagulls, sandpipers, custom-made walnut frame (by my talented husband) "Moon Dance" Dolphins frolic in the waves at Spray Beach. |
